White House Wednesdays

So many people are still talking about Michelle Obama’s wonderful State Dinner dress in honor of French President Francois Hollande.  And I agree it was absolutely stunning.  Designer Carolina Herrera designed the gown which she described as “a black hand-sewn beaded embroidery appliqué scallop-edged top over a liberty blue silk faille corset. A wide black velvet belt breaks up the top from the silk faille inverted pleat skirt.”  I personally loved the liberty blue color selected that echoes the blue color that both countries share in their flags.

Herrera knows how to perfectly dress a First Lady.  She worked with Jacqueline Kennedy and was one of the designers that First Lady Laura Bush selected to create her amazing gowns for her second Inaugural in 2005. Shown below Herrera had the honor for designing the dress Mrs. Bush wore to the Texas State Society’s Black Tie & Boots gala for which she created a dramatic raspberry silk taffeta gown- perfect for the event and Mrs. Bush.
