White House Wednesdays
Each year since taking office President and Mrs. Obama have been passing out holiday treats and we expect this year to be no different.  When the children come through the gates of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, The First Couple has welcomed trick-or-treaters with a goody sack typically including a White House shaped cookie, a box of White House M&Ms and a scoop of healthy dried fruit mix (in accordance with Mrs. Obama’s campaign against obesity).  See the recipes below!

The White House Sweet Dough Butter Cookie

(Obviously this recipe is for White House scale, cut to your liking or number of guests)

1 lb Sugar                        2 lb Butter

3 Eggs                              1 tsp Vanilla

1 tsp Salt                          3 lb All Purpose Flour

Mix the butter and sugar until soft and well beaten. Then add eggs, vanilla, salt and half the flour on slow speed till mixed, then add the rest of the flour and mix until incorporated.

Push flat onto a cookie sheet and refrigerate overnight. Rollout to one-quarter inch thick and cut out cookie shapes with cookie cutter.

Bake at 350F for 14 minutes and then allow to cool

Make your own dried fruit mix

Dried apples

Dried pears

Dried pineapple

Dried cherries

Dried apricots

Dried blueberries

Dried papayas

Banana chips

Combine ingredients and serve.
