White House Wednesdays

October is finally here and you cant help but notice everyone getting ready for Halloween, so of course it is inevitable that you will see a lot of candy.  There was one president who was famous for his favorite candy – President Ronald Reagan.  You would hear about it and see it.  President Reagan famously stated “You can tell a lot about a fella’s character by whether he picks out all of one color or just grabs a handful.”  The White House Executive Residence Staff even celebrated the President’s fondness of jelly beans in a variety of ways including White House Gingerbread houses as seen here.

Here you can see in this 1985 Gingerbread house that there was an entire path of jellybeans made leading you to the door as well as on the chimney.

In my new book, Pets at the White House, it was disappointing that we had to cut out part of one of my most favorite photos of President Reagan and his dog Lucky, in order for it to fit on the page. It shows below where you could see President Reagan’s favorite candy on Marine One.If you want to get creative this Halloween and celebrate President Reagan – you can order special individual jelly bean boxes and other items from the Ronald Reagan Library and other sources.
