President and Mrs. Kennedy along with Caroline and John Jr. sit on the Truman Balcony watching the Black Watch Royal Highland Regiment on the South Lawn of the White House, November 13, 1963.

President Kennedy and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy invited a number of schoolchildren in the area to attend the performance. The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) was a British Army line infantry regiment from 1881 until 2006 when it became the 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Nine members of the Black Watch later returned to the White House at the request of Mrs. Kennedy to participate in the President’s funeral procession from the White House to the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle.
